The course recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and two decades in, True Blue is as popular with Myrtle Beach golfers as ever.

The course layout was the brainchild of legendary golf architect Mike Strantz. After constructing Caledonia Fish and Golf Club in 1994 to rave reviews from players and golf writers, Strantz took aim at the adjacent property to sculpt an 18-hole course echoing aspects of Pinehurst #2 and Pine Valley.

However, True Blue is far from a copycat course, as the unique lowcountry landscape allowed for many one-of-a-kind aspects. Strantz heavily incorporated natural vegetation and coastal grasses around bunker areas to give the course that same "arrogantly shabby" feel that Pawleys Island is famous for.

Players and golf writers were so impressed with the design of True Blue that Strantz was named "Golf Architect of the Year" in 1998 by Golf World Magazine, and the course would be a prominent member of his impressive catalog of work.

Sadly, Strantz passed away in 2005 at the age of 50, but True Blue remains one of his crowning achievements and enjoying a round there is a great way to celebrate one of the brightest minds in golf course design.
