Piers of the Grand Strand

One of the most distinctive landmarks of any beach area are the piers that adorn its coastline, and the Grand Strand is no different. With eight piers located from Surfside Beach to Cherry Grove, fantastic fishing and sightseeing are waiting for visitors to the Myrtle Beach area. Here are a few of the most popular options for tourists!

Cherry Grove Fishing Pier: Located in the Cherry Grove area of North Myrtle Beach, the Cherry Grove Fishing Pier has a history dating back to its construction in the 1950's of providing its visitors with memorable fishing adventures. For example, in 1964, a world-record 1780-lb tiger shark was landed by Walter Maxwell off the pier! While we can't guarantee every catch to be that large, it's a good indication of the kind of action anglers can anticipate. Second Avenue Pier: Built in 1936, the 905-foot Second Avenue Pier is a favorite of tourists. Considered the southern anchor of the Boardwalk, it's one of the best places to take in the sights and sounds of Myrtle Beach. For a fee, guests are welcome to fish off the pier and take their shot at mackerel, flounder and even barracuda! Guests can also take advantage of their open-air bar and full-service restaurant, both great for starting or ending your day with a fantastic Atlantic view. Pier 14: With great location in central Myrtle Beach, Pier 14 is another popular tourist spot. Home of the Pier 14 Restaurant and Lounge, a fantastic dining experience is to be had with a menu featuring local seafood and steaks. A large gift and tackle shop is on-site, offering a sprawling assortment of various knick-knacks and souvenirs. Springmaid Pier: At a whopping 1068 feet long and 36 feet wide, Springmaid Pier holds the title of largest pier on the Grand Strand. Known as a hot spot for Spanish Mackerel (the state record was set here) and Tarpon (the largest caught was a 125-lb mammoth), a top-notch fishing experience will be had by guests.
